Wild-type reference strain for Oscheius guentheri (Sudhaus & Hooper, 1994). Isolated by D. J. Hooper in July, 1990, from decaying stem tissue of rice plants (Oryzae sativa, local cultivar Chet Som). Rice stems were sent to Hooper from R. Plowright (International Institute of Parasitology, St. Albans, Herts, England) and were originally collected by N. T. T. Cuc (Univ. of Can Tho) from An Brih, near Can Tho, Hau Giang Province, Vietnam. Hermaphroditic. Originally cultured on Nigon’s agar and agar with pieces of raw potato or meat, but grows on E. coli OP50 at 20-25˚C. Survives freezing using the C. elegans protocol. Synonymous strain designations: DF5032, PS2309. Sent to the CGC by David Fitch who obtained the strain from Walter Sudhaus Sept. 24, 1993.
