| Description | Male-female. Maintain by mating. Wild-type reference strain for Mesorhabditis spiculigera (Steiner, 1936). Isolated by Walter Sudhaus May 27, 1983, from rotten wood, Scharfenberg Island, Berlin, Germany. Gonochoristic and thus must be maintained by mating. Originally cultured on agar with raw potato, but grows on E. coli OP50 at 18-22˚C. Survives freezing via the C. elegans protocol. Synonymous strain designation: DF5009. Sent to the CGC by David Fitch who obtained the strain from Walter Sudhaus in 1992. |
