Directed mutagenesis of mog-5 removed 17 amino acids and inserted 9 different amino acids at the site of structural interface with SACY-1, promoting upstream alternative 3'ss usage in somatic cells in a pattern similar to sacy-1 mutants and similar to a switch that occurs in the germline.
