Strains carrying this gene

Strain Genotype Description
DG4269 mex-3(tn1753[gfp::3xflag::mex-3]) I. Superficially wild type
EU149 mex-3(or20)/hT1 I; +/hT1 V; lin-2(e1309) X. Strain is egg-laying defective. Homozygous mex-3(or20) is a non-conditional maternal effect lethal: worms fill up with dead eggs. Heterozygotes bag with 11/16 dead embryos and larvae. About 10% of worms can lay eggs and be mated into for outcrossing. The mex-3(or20) mutant embryos produce excess body wall muscle anteriorly.
JJ1014 mex-3(zu155) dpy-5(e61)/hT1 I; pos-1(zu148) unc-42(e270)/hT1 V. The double heterozygote is WT. WT will segregate WT, DpyUncs, mid-larval lethal (hT1 homozygotes) and dead eggs. The DpyUncs are homozygous for zu155 and zu148 and will segregate only dead embryos; the dead embryos have excess hypodermis and muscle and lack germ cells and intestine.
JJ478 mex-3(zu155) egl-30(n686)/hT1 I; +/hT1 V. Heterozygotes are WT and segregate WT, Egls which give only dead eggs, dead eggs, and mid-larval lethals (hT1 homozygotes)
